05/25/07  Glenview Condominium Fire

     Early Friday morning at 12:27 Harrods Creek Fire, St. Matthews Fire, and Worthington Fire were dispatched on a possible fire in the Glenview Condominium high rise at 5100 US Hwy 42.  While en route car 1204 was advised there were multiple calls of a possible fire in condo 934.  1204 arrived on scene with a working fire in condo 934 with flames out the bedroom window starting to communicate to the condo above.  He immediately asked for a 2nd and 3rd alarm due to people waving for help out of multiple condos and fire possibly communicating to the condo above the main fire.  Engine 1232, Quint 2658, Engine 2631 and Engine 1838 arrived on scene and began the fire attack.  Engine 1232 supported the system and their personnel along crews from St. Matthews and Worthington made the attack on the fire floor.  Engine 2631 from St. Matthews and other companies performed a search of the fire floor and removed victims from surrounding condos.  As other companies arrived ventilation was set up and an evacuation of the floors above and directly below the fire was performed.  It took crews about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.  There were about 30 apparatus and 100 firefighters utilized.  The departments that responded to the scene were Harrods Creek, St. Matthews, Worthington, Lyndon, Louisville Fire, McMahan, Jeffersontown, Middletown, and Anchorage.  Eastwood, Buechel, Fern Creek, North Oldham, and PeeWee Valley were utilized to cover the districts of the departments that were on scene.  The cause of the fire was determined to be the occupant smoking in bed.  Thanks to all the mutual aid departments, firefighters, and support personnel that responded.
